Forget the Algarve and instead discover the charm and natural beauty of central and northern Portugal with this Lisbon-to-Porto itinerary
Portugal is a hot destination right now – and we don’t just mean the weather.
Enjoy everything the Golden State has to offer – from incredible views to world-class food and drink and insider experiences – in stress-free luxury on a tour with Trafalgar
Balmy Alley in San Francisco, macarons in the Ferry Building, and Yosemite National Park
If there’s one thing a holiday’s meant to deliver, it’s this: to return home feeling noticeably less stressed than when one departed. It’s a perfectly achievable aim if your idea of the perfect holiday involves little more than collapsing on a sun lounger with a stiff drink and a good book, but can be a logistical nightmare if you prefer to pack more into your precious holiday time – as anyone who’s experienced the pain of frantically flipping through a guide book or searching online for the best restaurants/most authentic experiences/not-to-be-missed views in their hotel room instead of getting out and actually enjoying themselves will testify.
The resort of Kitzbühel in the Austrian Tyrol offers ski lessons and so much more, including top-class food and drink
There are worse places to learn to ski than Kitzbühel. There may be better places to learn to ski too but, arriving in the little Austrian Tyrol town with snow-capped mountains and picture-postcard shops all around, you’d be hard-pressed to think of one. It’s so typically Austrian that you can almost hear yodelling echoing from the mountains, and you wouldn’t be surprised to see Julie Andrews running down a nearby hill.
If lava caving, glacier trekking, canyoning and Northern Lights viewing are on your bucket list, then Iceland is the place to tick them off
On the very first day of 2014, my new year’s resolution came to me as I sat in a darkened cinema enjoying The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Alongside those I make every year (eat less chocolate, get in shape, learn a language – the usual), my cinema-inspired resolution was: go to Iceland.
