ELLE Style Awards ’09 – New Crowd Vs Old Crowd
What a busy old time it’s been in London Town recently! Following Sunday night’s BAFTAs, last night it was time for the fashion industry to honour it’s best dressed, as ELLE magazine held their annual Style Awards…
And there was a definite split in the stylish crowd that braved the cold and put in an appearance at the bash, between the ‘old cool crowd’ and the ‘new cool crowd’. Of the new crowd in attendance, Tamsin Egerton and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley were the style winners in our eyes – St. Trinian’s actress Tamsin put her slim, 5’10” frame to good use in a bandeau top and an unusual, full-length puffball skirt, whilst Burberry face Rosie – who won Best Model – looked gorgeous in a pale green drapey dress.
In addition to these new faces, X Factor winner Alexandra Burke hit the red carpet in the same D&G dress we saw Katy Perry in a few months ago, and Slumdog Millionaire star Freida Pinto continued what must be a dreamlike whirlwind for her as she picked up the award for Best Actress in an black appliquéd dress and strappy heels.
However, for every ‘hot, new thing’ there’s a celeb that’s been there, done that, got the Bungalow 8 members card. Leading the way in showing the youngsters how it’s done was the ever-lovely Sienna Miller – named ELLE Style Icon of the Year at the bash – who sported an embellished Matthew Williamson dress with a Louis Vuitton blazer, and told the ELLE girls of her excitement of her Twenty8Twelve range showing at the upcoming London Fashion Week.
Fresh from hitting up the BAFTAs the night before, Thandie Newton rocked the red carpet in a multicoloured layered dress with gold heels, whilst the super stylish Alexa Chung celebrated winning the TV Presenter of the Year award in a structured little black dress and patent T-bar heels.
Whilst this lot may still be considered ‘youths’ themselves (with a collective age of just 65), Henry Holland, Alice Dellal and Pixie Geldof are certainly no strangers to the party circuit! Henry seemed to be getting into the Valentine’s Day mood early in a heart-emblazoned jacket, whilst Alice was her usual provocative self in an almost totally sheer black dress and a studded choker. Pixie meanwhile left big sis Peaches (who announced her divorce from Max Drummey on Saturday) at home, hitting the party in a white mini dress and on-trend perspex heels.
For all the night’s winners, see the list below – and don’t forget to tell us who you’d give your style award to, the new crowd or the old crowd!?
